Ce séminaire est consacré à l’étude de la notion de personne et d’identité personnelle, à l’interface de la métaphysique, de la philosophie morale, du droit et de la philosophie de l’esprit. Nous aborderons tour à tour les grandes conceptions de la personne, la personne juridique et sa place dans l’ontologie sociale, les théories de l’identité personnelle diachronique, et enfin les débats contemporains sur le statut de personne des animaux et des systèmes d’intelligence artificielle.
Nous distinguerons la métaphysique « pure » (rôles et essences, constitution et identité, persistance, émergence, etc.) de la métaphysique « appliquée », qui consiste à articuler une structure ontologique apte à rendre vraies les affirmations issues d’autres domaines (éthique, sciences cognitives, droit, etc.). Le séminaire suppose une familiarité avec les méthodes de la philosophie analytique mais ne requiert aucune formation scientifique préalable.
